Annapurna Base Camp Difficulty Level

Annapurna Base Camp Family Trek is a wonderful journey that takes you through some of the spectacular geographical terrains of Nepal, and it is rated as easy to moderate trekking. This trek is most appropriate for those families who are ready to hike for a reasonable distance and have a passion for the outdoors.

On average, trekkers will be required to hike for 5 hours daily, giving ample time to marvel at the landscapes that range from the beautiful terraced fields the forests and, finally, the mountains of the Annapurna massif.

However, the trekking can be done by anyone with different levels of exposure to trekking since it has a gradual elevation to the high altitude where the Annapurna Base Camp stands at 4,130m above sea level. In higher altitudes, you are likely to realize that the air is thin, hence the importance of acclimatization days.

Nevertheless, if well prepared and hiked at a slow pace, the trek is still quite doable and could even be entertaining.

The trails are well-defined, and many trekkers use them, hence creating a friendly atmosphere throughout the trek. Not only is the journey physical but it is also culturally rewarding because you get to go through traditional Gurung and Magar houses to get a feel of the people’s lifestyle and their warm nature.

In brief, it can be said that the Annapurna Base Camp Family Trek is a relatively easy trek for an adventure.

The next day, after having a delicious breakfast, we will come and pick you up from your hotel, then proceed to Kimche in a private vehicle.

The journey is eye-catching, featuring the Nepalese landscape and the magnificent Annapurna range of mountains.

After reaching Kimche, our actual trekking starts to get to Jhinudada – a beautiful village located near the Modi Khola River. It takes almost 3-4 hours to reach Jhinudada, and this part of the trek is quite enjoyable for first-timers.

Jhinudada is famous for being very peaceful with beautiful scenery and hot springs (Tato Pani), where we can relax. Upon arrival we will be able to check into a comfortable lodge to base ourselves and take in the stunning scenery.

Tonight, we will stay in a tea house.

Today’s trek takes us from Jhinudada to Chhomrong, passing through fields of terrace farming and green forests.

The trek is a bit easy, taking 5-6 hours, and the views of the surrounding terrains are so stunning. Chhomrong – a beautiful village at the foothill of the Annapurna; you can have panoramic views of the Annapurna South and the Machapuchhre.

At Chhomrong, accommodation will be in a traditionally designed tea house that provides a home-like atmosphere. We are blessed with outstanding views of the setting sun over the Annapurna range, and therefore, Chhomrong is one of the most memorable places on our trip.

On the fifth day of the Annapurna Base Camp Family Trek, our destination is Bamboo, an unexplored place located at the bank of Modi Khola. The total duration time of the trek is 4-5 hours, and it passes through forests and valleys of rivers.

As we move on, there are changes in the scenery where one gets to see bamboo forests and clear streams. The trail is quiet, and the atmosphere is rather calm, given the fresh air filling the surroundings.

When we get to Bamboo, we will rest overnight at a tea house that has simple but good facilities for a night’s accommodation.

The hike from Bamboo to Deurali is relatively easy as it is only a steep climb that takes about 5-6 hours. From here and upward, the vegetation becomes relatively thin and consists of tall trees and above the tree line, there are excellent views of the surrounding mountains.

Deurali is situated at a higher altitude, and the hike has beautiful views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The trekking difficulty is moderate; however, the view compensates for all the efforts that one has to exert.

Accommodation in Deurali will be at a tea house that offers basic but standard rooms to tourists. The location provides a chance to get used to such altitude before getting to the Annapurna Base Camp.

You can enjoy traditional Nepali cuisine like Dal, Bhaat, and Tarkari at these warm and welcoming tea houses.

On the sixth day of the trek, we get close to the Annapurna glacier, if not the closest. We have our first break at the Machhapuchhre Base Camp, where one can enjoy the beautiful view of the Himalayan range of mountains, yet our trek advances further northwest to the ABC.

What today’s trek offers you is an incredible 360-degree view of other monumental giants such as Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna One (8,097m), Khangsar Kang, Gangapurna, Annapurna Three and Machhapuchhre.

Trekkers can get closer to some of the great giants of the Himalayas, including the Annapurna massif, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and others. After some exploration and sightseeing, we will stay overnight at a tea house.

The ninth day of the Annapurna Base Camp Family Trek brings you back to Himalaya after exploring the beautiful base camp. We will be trekking back, and our path will be towards Himalaya.

This part of the journey takes approximately 4-5 hours and goes through terrific terrains with a downward trend. As we continue our descent, we encounter many great forests and beautiful valleys on our way to the lower terrains.

Himalaya is a small village, which is located on the way to the main trekking route; therefore, it is a good place to rest. We will rest and stay overnight in a local tea house at Himalaya.

Today’s trek from Himalaya to Jhinudada is comparatively easy and it will take 5-6 hours to reach there.

Gradually, we come down through the remote trail, and the scenery remains equally enchanting with its natural surroundings.

In the morning, we will reach Jhinudada and then get fresh and check into the lodge, and we can go to the hot springs in the evening.

The hot springs are known to have curative properties, which make it easier for a visitor to relax the muscles after the hike. We will then have lunch and spend the night at the tea house in Jhinudada.

We are almost at the end of the Annapurna Base Camp Family Trek. We will first start trekking from Jhinudada to Matque and then a private jeep will be arranged to pick us up.

The road trip from Matque to Pokhara passes through most of the countryside of Nepal, and the view is excellent. When we arrive at Pokhara, we will be looking for a hotel to spend the night, and for the rest of the day, we will be free to tour this beautiful city.

Pokhara stands for its beautiful lakes, boisterous streets and majestic view of the Himalayas. In the evening, you may have leisure time to go around the places of interest in Pokhara or just have a relaxation in the hotel.

We will have breakfast in the morning and then drive back to Kathmandu in a private vehicle. The trip offers views of terrains and cities before giving the last taste of Nepalese nature.

Once you arrive in Kathmandu, you will get a few hours of free time for shopping and other activities before the farewell dinner at night. Kathmandu has a marked color and bustle with its temples, bazaars, and cultural activities.

On the final day of your Annapurna Base Camp Family Trek, you will have the morning to prepare for your departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some time to do last-minute shopping or enjoy a final walk around Kathmandu

Our team will assist with the transfer to the airport, ensuring a smooth departure process.
