Currency Exchange and Cash
The local currency in Nepal is the Nepali Rupee (NPR/Rs), and approximately 1 USD = Rs.133 NPR. You can easily exchange your foreign currencies at any bank and authorized money exchangers in Kathmandu, especially in Thamel. The authorized money exchanger/ bank gets the best conversion rate possible these days at their counters.
We recommend you bring cash to avoid the hassles of the procedure and the high rates of commission charges while exchanging US Dollars into Nepalese Currency.
ATMs in Kathmandu and Pokhara allow cash withdrawal in Rupees, with a maximum withdrawal limit of 35,000 Rupees and a processing fee of 500 Rupees for foreign cards. Note that banks and financial institutions charge around 4% or more service fees for exchanging money.
The Muldai View Point Trek lies within Annapurna region and does not have ATM banks or money exchange services, so it is important to exchange enough money in Kathmandu to last the duration of your trek as only the Nepali rupee is a commonly accepted currency within the trek.
